Acupuncture
Restore Function, Relieve Pain, and Reclaim Your Health with Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a time-tested and safe medicinal therapy that originated in Asia 3000 years ago. It has been integrated into modern Western medicine for its ability to reduce pain, improve healing, and restore function without prescription medications.
How Acupuncture Works
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to influence various systems and functions, and it’s closely aligned with the body’s connective tissue networks, known as fascia. Fascia is a web-like structure that surrounds every muscle, bone, and organ. Acupuncture channels, align with the fascial planes running through our body.
Each acupuncture channel (sometimes called a meridian) is associated with specific organs and their functions, such as circulation, digestion, or energy regulation. Acupuncture points are locations on these pathways where needles can be inserted to stimulate the body. By targeting these points, acupuncture promotes blood flow, reduces inflammation, and triggers the nervous system to release natural painkillers and regulate bodily functions.
In Western medical terms, acupuncture engages the body’s self-healing mechanisms by activating the central and peripheral nervous systems, prompting the release of the body’s natural pain-killing endorphins, promoting tissue repair, and improving communication between the brain and body. This makes acupuncture a unique complement to conventional medical treatments, particularly for pain management and chronic health conditions.

What to Expect During Your Session:
Prior to treating you, you’ll meet with Dr. McFarland for a consultation to discuss your health concerns, goals, and her recommended treatment plan.
At your first treatment, which may begin immediately following your consultation, the staff will guide you to a treatment room and get you set up comfortably on one of our cushioned treatment tables. Dr. McFarland will place the needles, talking you through the process each step of the way.
Because acupuncture needles are so fine and flexible, most patients feel little to no discomfort during treatment. If a patient does experience any discomfort, Dr. McFarland will make whatever adjustment necessary to make the patient comfortable and relaxed.
While acupuncture treatments are relaxing, under the surface, your body is using energy to process the treatment, therefore, we recommend that you are hydrated and have a light snack or meal prior to treatment.
We also recommend you wear soft, loose clothing, such as gym wear, that can be easily moved to accommodate the needles.
